Economics of Education

In this course, students study how microeconomic theories and models can be utilized to investigate a variety of issues regarding education. The course covers 5 broad topics including: 1) the basic theory of investments in education (human capital theory), 2) the returns to education, 3) education production functions, 4) teacher labor market, 5) early childhood education. Students will also review relevant cases in the context of developing countries and Indonesia in particular. Students are encouraged to read book chapters and journal articles assigned to each lecture to obtain a broad view of the literature.
