Dr. Wiratni Budhijanto is a faculty member in Chemical Engineering Department Gadjah Mada University (Indonesia). She was formally educated in chemical engineering with a special interest in bioprocess engineering. She earned her undergraduate (1996) and master's (1999) degrees in Chemical Engineering Department at Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia. Her doctoral degree (2003) was granted from Chemical Engineering Department, West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV, USA. Besides her formal education, she also took some informal training as a visiting researcher, such as in the Biological and Environmental Engineering Department, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, USA (2009-2010). Her passion for research was recognized with some prestigious fellowships, e.g. UNESCO-L’Oreal for Women in Science Fellowship (2007) and Schlumberger Faculty for the Future Fellowship (2009). Her research interests are bioprocess engineering, biorenewable materials, and waste management in the eco-efficiency framework. The distinctive characteristic of her research is the translation of science and engineering into reality for the benefit of the less fortunate communities in the form of mini-packages of technology, which are affordable for the limited situations of the communities.
