2023 EPIDEMIOLOGI: II | EL
Epidemiology II is designed to enable students with an advanced depth of knowledge in epidemiology theory and methods and provide essential skills to design, critically appraise, and interpret results from epidemiological studies. This course provides students with advance understanding of epidemiology study design focusing on classical observational and some of relevant experimental designs in field epidemiology, advance knowledge of methods of critically appraise epidemiological studies using the guidelines of enhancing the quality and transparency of health research (EQUATOR) and provide a foundation for understanding causal inference.
The course is focused on the design, implementation, data interpretation, and critical appraisal of epidemiological studies in human population particularly on analytical cross-sectional, case control, cohort, and non-randomized trials. Advantages and disadvantages of each study design will be discussed during the course.
Strengths and weakness of each design and common methods used for minimizing bias and errors in epidemiological studies will be discussed. Internal and external validity issues related two main biases, i.e., selection and information bias will be further explored. The class will engage the students in active and collaborative learning through team activities, group discussion, individual assignments, tutorial, and case studies.
