I.3. Enteral and Topical Dosage Forms
Pharmaceutical dosage form (PDF) is essential in drug delivery, compliance, pharmacokinetic, transportation, distribution, production, shelf life, effectiveness of therapy, and many other processes which can influence the final outcome of drug therapy. Every PDF provides unique properties, advantages, and disadvantages that result in different dosage forms. Enteral dosage forms are drugs that absorbed via GI tract including oral, gastric, duodenal and rectal administration. These drugs will pass the liver and enter the bloodstream. Topical dosage forms are drug preparations that are administered through the skin or mucous membranes, including the mucosa of the respiratory tract, vaginal and rectal. They are usually used to produce a local effect.
