Geotechnical Engineering of Dams

Geotechnical Engineering of Dams (Geoteknik Bendungan) in the Magister Program, Department of Geological Engineering discusses all necessary aspects in geotechnical engineering of dams, particularly for the type of earth-filled and rock-filled dams. The topic of this course covers the geological condition in dam location, site investigation, engineering properties of materials in foundation and quarry, engineering properties of clays, zonation and filter in dam construction, soil compaction, stability analysis and deformation, earthquake factor as well as instrumentation and monitoring of dams. 

Learning Outcomes: Developing student capability in understanding all necessary aspects in geotechnical engineering of dams, able to identify, analyse and propose solutions in the problems related to geotechnical engineering of dams.

  4. Shear strength, compressibility and permeability of materials and foundation

  6. Quarry and zonation of materials in earth-fill dams
  7. Soil compaction and control
  8. Filter design in earth-fill dams
  9. Erosion and seepage control
  10. Stability analysis and deformation of dams
  11. Earthquake factor in dam construction
