This course explores a selection of key issues and debates in the Anthropology of Europe for you to become acquainted with the Anthropology of Europe and European cultures and societies. This class consists of two parts: first, this course offers a survey of contemporary Europeanist anthropology and European ethnology; to reflect the past, current, future directions of anthropology of, and in Europe. Second, this course provides descriptions and analysis of European cultures and societies.

 

Issues that map the trajectory of change in contemporary European societies such as the expansion of European Union and its idea Europeness, migration and Brexit will also be discussed. Through the close readings of recent European ethnographies about the Netherlands, Poland, The United Kingdom and perspectives from various European countries, students will be able to write a short paper on a subject related to Europe.
