This
course provides an understanding of the basic principles of structure in
architecture. Students are given the understanding through theories and
hands-on experiences by demonstrating, investigating, and analysing ”4S+1D”
(structural
stability, strength, safety, synergy, and durability). Topics related with
basic mechanics in engineering in the field of construction and its relation to
architectural work as well as various types of building materials for
application in building design are also given to strengthen the knowledge of
the students.
Both
conventional and studio-based classes are integrated in realising the
project-based learning method. Students are facilitated with fun learning
approaches through guided open-ended cases to be solved with their
understanding in principles of structure and characteristic of the materials.
