Introduction to Organizational Studies

This course provides an introduction to the study of organizations in the public sector. The course structure consists of two parts. The first part introduces the nature of organizations, the development of organizational studies, the basic elements of organizational management, organizational culture, and the political aspects of organizations. The second part discusses organizational design and structure, organizational environment, organizational development, and organizational performance. Students are facilitated to study the lecture topics more comprehensively through book chapter reviews, class discussions, debates, and group presentations. At the end of the semester, students are expected to be able to: (1) understand the nature of organizations; (2) understand the development of organizational studies; (3) understand the basic elements of organizational management; (4) understand the organizational process; and (5) understand the dynamics of organizational development and change. Learning materials are presented in the form of PPT slides and relevant references.
