This course covers careful examinations of major topics in Indonesian social and political history. Course highlights include important social and political events of the making of Indonesia, social and political aspects of reform and crises, and historical explanation of major topics in Indonesian social and political life. This course provides opportunities for the students to explore topics in greater details by performing group projects which include mini research, review of journal articles, and group presentation. Over the course of a semester, students are expected to: (1) identify major topics in Indonesian social and political history; (2) explain the actors, process, and consequences of major social and political events; (3) compare and analyze important aspects of major social and political events; and (4) critically analyze past and current social and political policies in Indonesian modern history.
