The students will study the socio-historical context in cross-cultural understanding and communication. This course emphasizes self-awareness and individual reflection significance to accomplish a deep understanding of “individual” in multicultural contexts. In cross-cultural communication studies, it is vital to critically investigate individual cultural values and perceptions that can influence individual perspectives and interaction with others from different communities. This course will explore cross-cultural understanding outside Indonesia and contextualize it with Indonesian situations. Thus, as a global agent, critical thinking is a must in which it is needed to observe global events from different points of view.

The course will implement content-based instructions that allow the students to explore cultural content while strengthening their English language ability in the process. This course will be a combination of lectures, discussion, observations, writing assignments, presentations, clips showing, and cultural production that will attempt to cover different components of Indonesian and international cultures as well as making various communications. To develop communication practices and cross-culture competencies, the students will create and work on public events whose topics associate with cross-cultural phenomena.
